ART496: Independent Studies

This project centers on the documentation and preservation of a 15'-foot boat in the collection of Independence Seaport Museum. In this class, students use traditional measuring techniques to document the design of a boat. These measurements will tell us the current state of the boat and we can then determine what the original design would have been. These measurements will then be translated into a set of blueprints to be archived in the museum.

In conjunction with this traditional technique of measuring, we are working with the Penn State Abington Makerspace to utilize 3D scanning methods and technology to create a virtual and physical 3D model to be included in the Independence Seaport Museum collection along with the traditional blueprints.
